Q: How do I pick which instrument to play?
A: The band directors will meet with you and your parents in a personal Instrument Interview. At that time, we will assist you in selecting the instrument that is best for you by having you make sounds on the instruments, looking at your facial features and physical characteristics, and getting to know your personality. Our experienced staff will offer you the best advice possible on your instrument selection.
Q: How much time does band take?
A: There are only a handful of after school rehearsals during the beginning band year, to prepare for approximately 4 performances. Home practice is only 15-25
minutes, 5 days a week.
Q: If I join band, can I still do athletics, cheer, and other activities?
A: YES! Many of our current band members participate in football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, choir, theater, and other school activities. In fact, it is even possible to be a member of the CHS Band and play a sport.
Q: What fun things will I get to do in Band?
A: The most obvious and rewarding of all is learning to play an instrument. There's nothing more exciting than performing in a group with such a massive and energetic sound!
We like to reward the students for their hard work and dedication by hosting band parties; in fact, we start the year with our annual Back to Band Bash! The Bands always take a trip; we've been to places like iT'Z, NRH20, Medieval Times, Six Flags, Great Wolf Lodge, Schlitterbahn, and more. The CHS Band also travels and has been to places like Los Angeles, Orlando, and Australia, as well as recently performing in the 2017 London New Year's Day Parade.

Q: What performance opportunities will I have?
A: As a beginner, you will perform a Winter Concert or Recital, Mid-Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Picnic in the Park, and at a Music Festival. You will also have the opportunity to earn awards by performing at the Solo and Ensemble Festival.
In 7th and 8th grade, we have an additional concert as well as UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. The band is a major source of school spirit at pep rallies. Cleburne Band members have performed all across the state including the Murchison Performing Arts Center (at the University of North Texas), the Eisemann Center (in Richardson), the State Capital Rotunda (in Austin), the Alamo (in San Antonio), and more.

Q: How much does Band cost?
A: The main expense is getting a band instrument. Most students choose to rent their instrument from a local music store that provides competitive pricing. The most expensive instruments are provided by the school for a small maintenance fee. If you have financial concerns that may prevent your child from being in band, we can ALWAYS find a way for them to participate. In addition, there is a small band fee used to purchase band t-shirts, binders, and other supplies.

Q: How do I get an instrument?
A: Most parents rent an instrument with an option to buy or upgrade later. The band directors have compiled a list of instrument brands and models we recommend. We work closely with a local music store that will be available at our Band Drive later in the year. Most parents take advantage of this opportunity because they know this store will provide all the supplies and proper instrument for success in the Cleburne Band program. Please wait until the first meeting with the band directors before purchasing an instrument. Success begins with a quality instrument. Do not make the mistake of purchasing an instrument that will hinder your child's progress.
